In 2005, the Board of Directors of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation in Milan approved the project for the reconditioning of the Monteggia wing, an intervention that aimed at doubling the useful surface, approximately 12,000 m2.
The new wing will include 7 floors (2 underground and 5 above street level) and will house the Neurosciences and Sensory Organs Department.
The Monteggia wing reconstruction and reconditioning project is based on two guiding concepts entrusted to Ivas Group.
A NEW LOOK
Special attention was paid to aesthetic impact, especially when designing the façades, claiming that beauty cannot be unknown to the Public Administration, but, to the contrary, it should enhance the welcoming and hospitality features, especially in the health sector.
The implementation of the original architectural idea was assigned to Aliva srl (façade systems) which, through the design, production and supply of its special fixing systems, carried out the external enclosure. The second skin redesigns the volumes and the shapes of the building, giving it a new original profile. The design of the second skin, for a total 5,300 m2, features various parameters, conferring a strong identity of its own.
- BRICK SKIN
Composed of an aluminium and steel structure coated with blind double T-shaped elements and brick shutters, it defines the north, east and west prospects, according to an irregular, original design of strong impact, that recalls the materials previously used in the hospital.
-RHOMBOID METAL MESHING SKIN
Covers the steel structure and defines the south prospect, marking the technical areas and supporting the green enclosure made of various essences.
-HIGHLY AESTHETIC RHOMBOID METAL MESHING SKIN (R&R)
Defines the south prospect, marking the reception areas and supporting the green enclosure.
-GLASS SKIN
Lights up the lower section and the teaching room of the south prospect, protecting it from solar radiation during the summer, thanks to the serigraphed glass.
