THE NEW LOOK OF THE MONTEGGIA PAVILLION In 2005, the Board of Directors of the Maggiore Hospital Polyclinic Foundation, approved the final scheme for the demolition and reconstruction of the Monteggia Pavilion; a development that will double the amount of existing floor space, up to approximately 12,000 m2. The new pavilion will be on 7 floors (two underground and five above ground) and will house the Neuroscience and Sense-Organs Department.
Special attention has been paid to the aesthetic appeal of the building, in particular ensuring modern design and beauty should not be strangers to public sector works, moreover in the health care sector they should portray a welcome and hospitable environment.
The works programme is expected to last three years, one for demolition and two for reconstruction. The demolition phase has been extended to allow for the utmost caution and to ensure minimal interference with the day to day operations of the hospital. During the first phase the executive plans for the renovation were concluded and put out to tender. The installation and design of the external envelope of the New Monteggia Pavilion will be undertaken by ALIVA.
The external envelope is approximately 5.300 m2, comprising 3.200 m2 of terracotta baguettes pre- fabricated onto a steel structure, a material historically used internally at the hospital. Further there are 900 m2 of stainless steel mesh and 180 m2 of glass curtain wall for which the installation and fixing have been specially designed by ALIVA.
ALIVAs programme starts in October 2007 and is expected to finish in May 2008.
