For the restoration and expansion of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, ALIVA supplied and installed the external cladding of the two new buildings designed by the architect, Mario Botta: the stage tower (clad with a ventilated façade) and the elliptical building (clad with shading panels).
For the ventilated façade of the stage tower, ALIVA designed a special anchoring system, ALI-STONE, with an aluminium alloy substructure, capable of supporting very thick slabs of Botticino marble in total safety. Special innovative techniques made it possible to reduce to the minimum the contact stresses between the slabs and the structure itself. Eight hundred and fifty light fittings were inserted into the overall 5000 square metre surface: a picturesque "starry sky", designed by Botta, which uses fibre optic lighting housed in special slots.
For the shading panels of the elliptical body, ALIVA designed large modules (3 m x 3 m) weighing 2 tons, pre-assembled and thoroughly checked on the ground in an area away from the theatre. The modules were then loaded onto special lorries, transported overnight to La Scala and put into position following a unique and detailed plan.
